1 Corinthians 15 provides information about Christ’s resurrection (vv. 1-19) and the order of resurrection (vv. 20-49). It also reveals the mystery of the resurrection (vv.50-58). We live in a world and time where many people work for things that don’t matter. I want to encourage today’s believers, just as Paul did with the words of 1 Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be firm, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”
Remember that our resurrection means we must stand firm for the Lord now. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, be steadfast and immovable, always giving yourselves entirely to the work of the Lord because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Knowing that we have overcome death and have an eternal resurrected future with Jesus Christ, we are called to stand unwavering and steadfast in our commitment to Him. In everything we do, let us work diligently and wholeheartedly for the Lord, understanding that our actions have everlasting significance.
Knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord, even if your hard work seems worthless to others and they don’t acknowledge or appreciate what you do for the Lord, remember that your efforts are not in vain in the eyes of the Lord. Whether or not you receive praise or encouragement, know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord because of the promise of resurrection. Put all your strength into your work and labor in the Lord, following his guidance and drawing from his influence. Without him, your efforts would be in vain.
The principles outlined in this passage should strengthen our resolve, making us unwavering, unshakable, and consistently thriving in carrying out the work of the Lord. They remind us that we do not need to be indecisive, alter our course, stumble, or give up. For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister (Hebrews 6:10)
At the time of resurrection, the Lord will demonstrate His recognition and appreciation for the work and labor of love we have dedicated to our faith. This will validate our efforts and provide comfort and assurance for all believers.
In His Service,
Dr. Jeffery Parker
